Soon after I met my Joyce, I remember vividly when I first met Len and Bette at an event, and how amazing they were in socialising with me, and how they made me feel welcomed from the start.
I were instantly drawn to Bette for her amazing history and keen eye for design, and equally drawn to Len for his obvious history of hard work and experiences, and being a “bloke’s bloke”. I remember Bette telling me on that occasion that she loves the exotic foods, however Len leans more towards the standard foods he enjoys.
As my time progressed with our Joyce, I can still feel the continual warmth that the Lovgren’s poured out to me, and they began to expose me to all the projects that Len were involved with over the years.
To name a few, building a home for a start. A 1-2 man retaining rock wall, concrete walkways, a hand dug-out basement for a work shop, septic training, and then digging his own septic system where I am given to understand he received praise from the inspectors as to the quality and accuracy.
I grew up on a sizeable farmstead, and were spoiled with tractors and heavy equipment. Len’s projects involved his ingenuity, vision, a spade, a wheelbarrow, hand tools and a lot of sweat.
Numerous times I have mentioned to my Joyce that although she were smitten with her Brad from the start, I would have loved to have known the Lovgrens in my youth and to have been involved with every one of Len’s amazing projects.
Len enjoyed watching sport which he shared with our Joyce, however, I were always captivated by his personality, jokes and the stories of when he grew up.
Although I lack in the wonderful, never-ending loving grace that Len possessed with others, I would like to think that Len and I are cut from the same cloth. We both grew up knowing the value and benefits of hard work, and thereby acquiring the skills and knowledge of “doing it yourself”.
They say that marriage is the truest and most genuine act of unselfishness and generosity because one commits themselves to the contributions and benefits of a family.
Although I came into the Lovgren family late in life, I have clearly seen the love, unselfishness and generosity that Len possessed all thru his life and is wonderfully reflected in his daughters Joyce and Janice.
