Gramps was the sweetest and kindest man. He reminded me of Winnie the Pooh with the way that he talked, walked, and went through life.

I have so many incredible memories of time spent with him.

When us grandkids were little, every Christmas Gramps would take us to the Dollar Tree and help us pick out and buy presents to give to our family members. This loving and generous act allowed us little kids to experience the joy and excitement of giving to others. I always took way too long trying to pick out the perfect gifts, and Grandpa would sometimes get a little impatient, often suggesting I choose random items just so we could eventually get out of there.

Grandpa loved to be wherever the fun was taking place. I remember one year I was walking through the county fairgrounds with my siblings. Out of nowhere, we saw Grandpa float by on one of the senior transit carts. We started waving, yelling, and running after him. He saw us and started laughing, but kept right on riding along until we chased him down for a hug. He loved the fair and would go several times every year.

Gramps spent many afternoons volunteering his time at the Tacoma Rescue Mission, as well as at Kiwanis events and church events. He was an incredible example to all of us of what an active and loving member of the community should be. He exemplified Christ in so many ways, and lived out his strong faith with diligence and integrity.

I’ll love you forever, Gramps! I can’t wait to see you again someday soon.
